This process is enhanced by recognizing and responding to the unique learning needs of a diverse student population in an environment that facilitates and encourages critical thinking and a spirit of scientific inquiry. We believe that the teaching-learning process in such an environment fosters the development of professional skills necessary for the implementation of construction technology through the utilization of critical thinking and effective communication. We also believe that this type of environment encourages self-awareness and opportunities for personal and professional growth.

Story of the College

For the first time in Kolkata, we are opening a Community College which is Dodhichi Community College. Our Respected Sir Dr. Nripen Bhaumik was interested to open a Community College. Few years ago he contacted to Dr. Xavier Alphonse (I.C.R.D.C.E) about Community College. He formed a trustee board. It is a charitable trust named Dodhichi Trust. Dr. Alphonse readily came forward with all kinds of assistance to open the College as early as possible. Day-by-day we got response from our trustee members who are interested in Community College movement and helped us enormously. Dr. Alphonse also encouraged at every step. One of our founder members, not with us today, late Pratik Mahajan died one year ago. That his dream comes true today is the satisfaction of our all members. Now we are able to start our College at the first instance with the Health Assistant Diploma course. We are affiliated to N.S.D.C (National Skill Development Corporation ) set up by Govt. of India through their nodal agent I.C.R.D.C.E, Chennai.

The Origin of Community Colleges

The Community College Movement started in 1996 at Chennai with the starting of Madras Community College. It was decided to concentrate on one year diploma in the Community Colleges system. It was promoted as an alternative system of education based inspiration and model of the US community colleges. The whole concept was evolved because of the interaction with more than 30 professors of US community college and by the visit of Dr. Xavier Alphonse, S.J. , in 1995-96 to 18 community colleges. The community college system aims at empowering the marginalized and disadvantaged sections of the society. It has become a National Phenomenon with the clear articulation of Urban, rural, Tribal and Women Community Colleges.

It has spread its wings to 25 states of India with 474 community colleges associating with Indian Centre for Research and Development of Community Education (ICRDCE), which is a pioneering institute to develop the concept and to help in the establishment and monitoring of all the community colleges.
